It's just a funny song, and admit it the chorus "Nothing but a dog" gets stuck in your head!!!
That being said Edward wouldn't have said anything so harsh in Eclipse or Breaking Dawn, sure he may have called Jacob a mutt a few times but he also thanked Jacob ALOT for taking care of Bella.
It still is fun to listen to.
