It's kinda pointless having this poll on a Twilight/New Moon fansite. Isn't that the point of having this site? The only people who would come on this site are Twilight fans. Sure we like Harry Potter, but no one should expect to see it getting the most votes.

About the article, I really don't think that if I love Harry Potter (and I do) I can't love Twilight (wich I do too).
Are different types of magic. Besides, I started reading HP when I was 14, now I'm 22 and still love them! I almost die with the last one!
I have lovers in the two sagas (and even in a third, LOTR LOL)
And yes, I'm gonna watch the two movies!!

Oh spoilers!! But yea...it was all so sad!!! I was crying for like half of Book 7! And I listen to the audio books at work (yes I am a nerd) and I cry at work and really start to look like a crazy person! I cant tell them I am crying because of HP! I am a grown woman! LOL!
I've been listening to New Moon and crying at work! Why do I do this to myself?! haha!
But the Hermione/Ron kiss is the best one that I've ever read!!!

It's funny, my first experience with Twilight was seeing a Facebook flair that said "Edward was a Hufflepuff" and so I got curious and checked it out.
The two can certainly coexist in my world!!

Oh yeah, so far the only movie that's been able to evoke tears from me is The Pursuit of Happyness (I think that one just gets to husbands, brother-in-law and MMA sparring partner was bawling his eyes out too). This one has a lot of potential though. My wife certainly will be crying.

it has fantasy like twilight only more. there's more magic, more action/adventure even a little romance. there's HILARIOUS parts, sad parts, it has EVERYTHING. its such a great series. its not really a kid's book. all kinds of people from all ages read it. its a classic now. :)

HP was like the epitome of the whole 'teen books phenomenon' several years ago.
I think HP started this all. And of course, TWILIGHT is a big part of me too, as HP.
Both of these series took over my life... and I don't blame them. They're both inspirations to many people. And I admire how these simple books have huge effects on people...
Also I want to point out that Harry Potter beats Twilight any day when it comes to writing and character development. Pssh. No doubt about that. I love HP because of its characters and the 'unique'-ness of it. I love how JK Rowling is very descriptive and in detail about every little thing. And I adore it. So, so much. It just drags you in with the fantasy. And I like how she gives this really nice names to candies. LOL.
But what I also love about Twilight is the angst, romance, drama, suspense, and the thrill that makes you pull an all-nighter! LOL. You can relate to it sooo much. It has a great storyline, which drags you in to the fantasy world of vampires. It's amazing how SM can just think of vampires after having a dream about a girl and a boy in a simple meadow. It's beyond me.
Both HP and Twilight had taken over, have taken over, and will be taking over my life as I grow up. There's enough room to have them both sitting and guarding my heart...

They're not stupid. They knew Twilight was the next big thing, and they KNEW people would choose to see Twilight over HP6. Most parents would not give their kid 20 dollars to see two movies in one week. They'd have been insane to try to stand up to Twilight. It may not be better, that's all a matter of opinion, but because Twilight was NEW, it would have been the first choice.
The movie would have bombed if they had released it.
Either way, I don't think it would have bombed. There are WAYYYY too many HP fans around the world. Definitely more than Twilight has (or at least had when the movie originially came out). I mean, Harry Potter has been translated into something like 67 languages. It's really unlikely that all of those readers would decide they didn't want to see the movie.
But that's just my opinion.
But the think about HP is that the next 3 movies will have alot of romance and things that the other books didnt have. HP is 16 in this story... its when everything gets really started in that department.

I am taking half a day off of work on Wednesday so I can go see Harry Potter the minute it hits theaters.
And I will also be skipping a few classes on November 20 so that I can see New Moon the minute it gets to theaters.

For me it just seems like the Harry Potter movies have been spread over too long of a time period. The hype has died down a bit. It's not so much that twilight has replaced it. Anyone get what I'm trying to say? Am I wrong?
so twilight wins in this round. the writing i could care less about that. i suck at writing. it could have the worst writing and by the best book because of the storylines.
I on the other hand do acknowledge that the writing of HP is waaay more advanced than the Twilight series... but I also acknowledge that this was Stephenie's first book, and damn did she do a great job! I think Stephenie's work will flourish with time and I can't wait for more!!
I'm lucky enough to be apart of the generation that grew up on Harry Potter. I love it, and it can NEVER be replaced to me. Come on, my name is 'xtonks' LOL. Twilight has caught my interest, but I will still be seeing HP6 the day it comes out, just like I'll be seeing New Moon the day it comes out, and I'd expect that it'd be the same for everyone else who enjoys both.
A poster may be replaced, but that does not mean that that kid won't show attention to both. They made a good move by pushing HP6 back and not releasing it so close to Twilight. It makes it very easy and reasonable for youngsters to convince parents to let them see both. Being as all of the books are out for both series as well, there should be no fight over book sales. Of course Twilight will be CURRENTLY selling more, because Harry Potter is considered 'old news.' We won't know who truly sold more until they're both old news, and even then, libraries, sharing, used book stores, ect. You can never truly calculate how many people have read a book.
There may be some who will pick up Twilight and never pick up Harry Potter, but in that case, I say, if not Twilight, something else could have stood in their way. There will also be plenty of people who will pick up Harry Potter and never pick up Twilight. It goes from person to person, but both can definitely exist. In my book, I love Harry Potter more, but my money and fandom goes out to both.
ok, well i also think there is room for both...i mean, they both introduce us to magic fictional worlds, each in their own way and are very very different..........but to speak the truth, i don't judge or blame the little girl, hhahahha, i think twilight has something else tht captivates us and is just impossible to scape from...once a twilighter always a twilighter!!!!!!!

I wont Lie I love the Harry -Potter Movies but the books not so much . I have read them but I just could not read them more than once . Now Twilight , New moon , Eclipse , Breaking-Dawn I have lost count on how many times I have read them. I am going to see the new Harry Potter movie because I do love them(Movies) but yeah I pick Twilight.
Overall, the edge for me has to go to HP. How many would have never read Twilight if they hadn't first fallen in love with books through the boy wizard?

I have so many books on my to do list!! I am a total book junkie! I got a book in the mail the other day and my BF told me I had a problem...He just doesn't understand!! Right now I have Hunger Games, The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Sookie Stackhouse Books, The House of Night series, and tons of fanfic!! Somehow I will read them all!!
I am really looking forward to next week to see the new HP movie. I must confess that I've never read the books, but I plan on it. I've loved the movies since the very first one. It's something my kids and I have shared.
Not gonna abandon HP just because of my insane obsession over all things Twilight!

I like Harry Potter... the MOVIES... never read the books... they're awesome movies BUT my heart is truly devoted to Edward Cullen and that amazing world the Queen Bee created for all of us... those Harry Potter movies do have a run for their money...
I still watch HP movies, and I have to say that I have read HP one, two and three. I have book 4 but thats only because Rob is Cedric.lol. And I have all the movies, but my favorite is obvious. (Robs in it) *Swoon*. Its just The Twilight saga, is sooooo Well AMAZING, WONDERFUL, BRILLAINT, and it feels so REALISTIC.
Therefore, my heart is fully devoted to Twilight. HP takes up only a very small percentage of my heart, except for the 4th movie. =)
Although Harry will always have a wonderful place in my heart... I sometimes fall asleep during the first half of the movies. Lol

Comparing Harry Potter and Twilight is like comparing apples and oranges.
Seriously. They both have the fantasy thing going on in both of them. And they both have rob in the cast. But other than that, they are completely different!
There should and is room for both.
Harry Potter is about Wizards and the world of magic! It is an adventure series where your imagination can flow.
Twilight is about Vampires and Shape Shifters. It is a world of scary creatures. It is a romance series where your heart aches for Bella and her constant struggle to decide between two amazing guys.
Oh how I wish the real world were a little like both.

It truly is a kids book with singing hats and invisible schools but more than that it is insulting with terrible phrases like Muggles and Mudbloods, the entire series is basically about how wizards are good and humans are bad.
Twilight is different, Edward doesn't insult other people, in fact he envys the humans and their mortality. It also has real values and is much more grown up.

I doubt that I'm the only one here who is a HP fan who has noticed the link from HP with the real world (cloaked evil ppl who hate "Mudbloods" and "Muggles", Hermione who wants to stop house elf slavery )

but a good start would be to read the books before saying it's a kid's book.

The truth is that this book came out when I was in grade school and now I'm nearly 20 and I can't help but see it as the book all the kids would read still. I mean I've just grown up, I don't read Babysitters Club or Beverly Clearly anymore either and if I did I might be considered weird that I would read a "kids" book.
Harry Potter is a child's book, singing hats and wizards on broomsticks just don't interest me that much anymore. I want more dark and twisty things than HP
And that fact that you only read one book out of 7, and it was her first one, means you can't really have an informed opinion on the subject.

I've been a Twilighter since the book first came out, but very recently I've got into Harry Potter too.
I think the two both provide different things. Twilight is more of a reality. It seems more like it could actually happen than Harry Potter does. When I want my fix of vampire luvin', I go to Twilight, but Harry Potter provides more of a fantasy world. Something completely different and new.

Since I am a romantic at heart, Twilight speaks more to me.
And we cannot compare the movies, since HP movies have so much better budgets and also really good behind the set ppl working on it. JK Rowling is tougher and more strict about the movies as well. Which I am glad, I wish S. Meyer was that too but I guess she was just happy to have her books made into movies.
And yes, I have pre-ordered the HBP tickets :) Going to see it on 18 July. I hope it's awesome, as I didn't like HP5 movie. It's my least fave among the HP movies.
Of course, I am going to see NM movie as well when it's out, in fact, this time around, I have a higher expectation for this coming twimovie, with a better budget and all. I hope I will not be disappointed. I was ok with the first twmovie, since I didn't have any expectation at all, except, I hope it didn't suck too much. LOL. Kristen and Rob did great so it turned out pretty ok.

I've grown up watching the HP movies, but the only reason that more teens are attacted to Twilight is that it's a romance.
Anyways, to sum it all up, The main thing is that, HP and Twilight have in common is that they're both fantasy novels and Warner Bros. don't need to put the blame on Twilight on this.
But I'm not a Harry Potter fan. The books were badly written so i'm avoiding the movies.
I read my first Harry Potter book when I was about 11 years old, and I totally fell in love... so I've been a fan about 10 years now. I think that HP series is a big part of me, and it has affected me in many ways. I grew up reading those books.
And then I found Twilight, and it had almost the same effect on me. I totally fell in love!
And I'm happy I have both in my life! Can't pick my favorite, and luckily I don't even have to :)
I probably will keep reading both series's over and over again till death do us apart LOL

I read the first Twilight novel only last year, in August. I had no clue what it was about, the main (and probably only) reason I bought the book was to see what all the hype was about. However, I immediately fell in love with the story and its characters. It too holds a very special place in my heart.
Writing wise, granted, J.K. is definitely a better writer. However, in my option, I think Stephenie's really good as well. People tend to forget that the Twilight saga is a first-person POV, which I'm sure you all know is very hard to write. I think Steph pulled it off amazingly, because even through the thoughts of one character, we were able to love and understand the other characters as well.
Honestly, I think right now I prefer Twilight. Because right now I am going through things that Bella, Edward and Jacob did. Love, romance, passion, heartbreak, friendship, loyalty, making choices, etc. This does not decrease my love for HP, I still do love it, but at this stage of my life it is easier for me to connect to Twilight.

i was never in to the harry potter seris until after i read all the twilight saga books fifty times!!!!! I was tottally obsessed! Then at a friends house i was convinced to try the harry potter seris! it was great just like twilight in a diffrent way! you can compare books that are diffrent! twilight is more of a romance book than Harry potter. I am a thirteen year old who used to Hate reading!!!! Now i love it! i can reread each seris hundreds of times!!! i just wish the seris didn't have to end for each of the seris left me thirsty for more reading! i am obsessed with these 2 seris and by friends call me bella hermionie!!!! much better then my real name!!!!! I love you twilight i love you harry potter each 4 diffrent reasons!!!!!!
i really don't think that twilight is better than harry potter
it's not that romantic, the firts book was ok....and then
we don't have anything! just books that try to complement the story....
but harry potter! those books are just amazing! it's a great story...the caracters are perfect for each other....what makes twilight so "good" are: Robbert P. and Taylor....but whitout them....twilight is just another romantic movie
harry potter, that movie doesn't need pretty faces to make the movies perfect
twilight doesn't have anything to do next to harry potter!
