She probably means that she doesn't have a stylist who picks her outfits for everyday wear. When she wears a dress like Balenciaga (which she wore at the twilight premiere) then she'd probably have a stylist pull it from the designer for her. At most of the recent red carpet events she's worn designer dresses (Adventureland red carpet she wore Max Azria and Valentino at the 2009 VMA's). Things may have changed since she did that interview or she probably didn't think that a red carpet had anything to do with her regular clothes shopping. Some of the dresses may even be custom made for her too. We don't know because no ones asked her specifically if she picks her red carpet outfits on her own or maybe someone on her staff does. Right now she can't exactly walk into a designer store without being mobbed, which is where stylists come in. I haven't seen any pictures of her buying the dresses she wears. I'm not trying to second guess that interview, but I just think that she only meant her regular clothes and not red carpet outfits. I do believe she buys her own everyday clothes though because she has her own style.

I didn't see or hear her say that in any interviews, but even so I stick to my point that suspenders do not look good. Ultimately she picked the outfit and I see nothing wrong with the actual jeans or shirt, just the suspenders. However, she can wear whatever she wants and I'm sure she doesn't care what I or anyone else thinks of the way she dresses.

All major Celebs hire stylists for important events, you just don't hear about it because they're behind the scenes and usually dont get recognition. That doesn't mean that the celeb doesn't pick out the outfit, they just have help choosing what to wear. Just because you have a stylist doesn't mean you can't wear whatever you want still. Usually they'll gather a whole bunch of outfits and the celeb picks which one they like best.
