Besides, they can work their magic and make anyone look older/younger, shorter/taller, fatter etc. It is the essence of the character that matters.

Seriously, the whole buff and tall thing isn't that huge of a deal, they could easily fake that if they had to.
But have you even seen any pics of him lately, he's really fit and plenty buff enough to pull it off.
Besides, Taylor is the perfect age to play Jacob and he's totally gorgeous.

It is completely unfair to Taylor. He's by far the most dedicated cast member I have seen despite his small rolle in the first movie. He completely personifies Jacob's personality, which is way more important than something like HEIGHT.
Recent pictures show: he's gained like 20 lbs in muscle because he's going through physical training in prep for his role. DO NOT betray him like this.
It is completely unfair to Taylor. He's by far the most dedicated cast member I have seen despite his small rolle in the first movie. He completely personifies Jacob's personality, which is way more important than something like HEIGHT.

That brings me to another point, what the hell is up with Summit?! Such a low budget after Twilight is continuing to bring in boatloads of cash just from the domestic release. (The budget is reportedly one of the reasons why Catherine Hardwicke isn't directing New Moon.) Think of the international revenue AND the dvd sales! It's already been said that the budget increase will be mostly for the Star's bigger paydays. I read a quote from a Summit rep (I couldn't find it to reference) saying that they were happy with the effects in Twilight and didn't feel that they needed a big budget increase for the effects in New Moon. While I liked Twilight, what little effects it had were sub-par. That won't fly for the more effects oriented New Moon.
The rushing of the sequel seems unnecessary as well. It's like Summit's a kid with their first $5 and they don't know what to do with themselves. Ugh, I just hope they don't mess this franchise up.

If Summit goes there, we will all know that it's about Taylor's age and therefore limited hours conflicting with their rush-job, and we will all know for sure where their priorities really lie - purely with their own financial gain.
Hopefully they aren't really making such a short-sighted decision.

There are times when he looks his age - eg. when he's wearing oversized suits and jumping up and down on the red carpet - but there are other times when he could easily pass for 20 or 21. A decent director should be able to capture that older-looking side of him.
As for the height, he isn't a midget or anything. Camera angles and possibly a body double, various other commonplace Hollywood tricks could make him appear significantly taller than Rob/most people. That's all that is needed.

He's 5'9 which is laughably short...even compared to Patterson who's like 6 ft. Jacob is supposed to TOWER over Edward...he's supposed to be 6'7!!!!
I liked Taylor in the Twilight movie just fine, but for the rest of the movies we need someone actually older...not just a Kid playing a man. Jacob might be young in the books, but his wolf DNA aged his body to that of a 25 year old much faster than a normal human...they need to show that!!!

you cant have one person play someone in the first movie and than change in the second.

Yes it would be disappointing if it turns out badly, but frankly I didn't even like how they captured Twilight in the movie, it was to off from the book. Hey! that was to be expected. As a relative of the Author I would like to see this work out and you stop putting pressure on Stephenie and Summit. They are doing everything with you in mind. i totally agree with priscilla, if they can make robbie coltrane look like a giant hagrid, then they can make taylor taller, and i agree with bluesuzanne that it will be detrimental to the viewer's experience.
and who really fucking CARES if he's not as tall as everybody pictured jacob to be? movies will never capture characters as perfectly as you want them to be (unless you pictured a specific actor).

we should be open-minded enough to accept that Taylor was only temporary.If you HAD read "New Moon book" BEFORE the "Twilight Movie", you should have at least considered the possibility of re-casting "Jacob".He is supposed to have grown...not just muscles and height but his face should also mature and look like hes in his 20s. basically taylor is absoloutely spot-on perfect for the part, except for two things: his height and his cheerfulness. i am hoping that they can use effects on his height - i mean, it worked for robbie coltrane - but from what i've seen summit are total cheapskates. the twilight effects were pretty much early-dr.who-level.. only rob's total, utter HOTness and the whole cast's acting skills saved it from complete disaster. but if they can't fix the height then its awful after all the effort taylor's gone but they have 2 cast steven strait :( dammit coz i love taylor otherwise.

I DO NOT care about the actors, the locations, or anything else BUT the emotions. New Moon has very strong emotions in it, and I want those emotions captured and brought to the screen. If Michael can bring the emotions better than Taylor, then in my view, he's a better choice. If Steven can do that, then he's the better choice. If Taylor can do that, then he's the better choice.
It really shows how much love Bella and Edward have for each other, and leads up to the emotions that Jacob has for Bella, not strictly on crush-level anymore. This book affected my emotions so much that I want to see them on the big screen. I want to FEEL Bella's pain while it's played across the screen, I want to SEE Jacob's devotion in the beginning. Nothing else matters to me anymore but the emotions.

Ok one reason is that u no how they are saying that taylor isnt "physically mature" enuff to be jacob? well i dont think that makes any sense because he has an 8 pack. theres even this video on youtube of him when hes like 12 or 13 or something like that and he still had an 8 pack.

He's 5'9 which is laughably short...even compared to Patterson who's like 6 ft. Jacob is supposed to TOWER over Edward...he's supposed to be 6'7!!!!
I liked Taylor in the Twilight movie just fine, but for the rest of the movies we need someone actually older...not just a Kid playing a man. Jacob might be young in the books, but his wolf DNA aged his body to that of a 25 year old much faster than a normal human...they need to show that!!!

Can you name one movie that actually did well after replacing a main character?...no...exactly. Not only that, but Taylor has worked very hard to keep this part. Not only did he buff up and plans on being 30 lbs buffer but he studied the book religiously this last year. That in its self shows total dedication to the character and how hard he is willing to work. Yes I do believe that SS would be a great Jacob, but replacing Taylor now would be wrong. SS is a great actor and I loved The Covenant, but Stuart and Taylor have already built that relationship that is needed for the role. I would hate to see that lost. And lastly, remember that everything you see in the book when you read it, will be the same when someone else creates the film. He has totally buffed up and fits the character perfectly. The book describes him like the sun and a cheery person, which is exactly what Taylor is... Well, that's what I think anyway... Lol...
