They are two very very different things - Writing well and telling a good story.
That doesn't make her a bad writer though... I think it is unfair to compare her to JK Rowling, and I don't believe Meyer was competing with Rowling in the first place. I think Twilight is a great book, even if it would never win the booker prize.
People who jump on the defence and say you aren't a fan of Twilight if you think it is anything less than the greatest book ever written, may not have read much else!! Sorry but I love Twilight, have read all the books and adored the movie (Can't wait for 20th November!!) BUT I know what it is... it is a sweet story that has captured the imagination of so many people around the world. Regardless of how well it has been written, or who says what about it, it is a good story.
OMG SOMEONE IS MAKING FUN OF THE COMMENTS HERE
how dare he insult smeyer like that, stephen king is sooo wrong and twilight is the best book saga EVER!!!!!!!! and now were being made fun of for defending the best author in the wold from this stuupid dbag who cant write any better then smeyer!!!!!! THESE GUYS SUCK SOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was people like you, combined with actual TWILGHT FANS WHO WERE SANE AND ADMITTED TO SOME OF THE BOOKS' FLAWS, (Because they are numerous,) who eventually weaned me off the books. Now I'm a solid Anti. You can blame yourself for failing as a fangirl, kthxbai.
Her work is mediocre. Mediocre writing, subpar plots and cliche vampires that....sparkle. Trust me, I'd take Salem's Lot over Twinkle Twilight any day.
Firstly, King writes to a completely different base of readers so bringing his stats into this is completely irrelevant.
Secondly, it's not about the quality of writing that's important. It's whether people can connect to the writings on an emotional and psychological level that matters. People enjoy these books because they're interesting, personal, and are relatively easy to relate to. Besides, they're way more realistic than books about a kid who goes to a school to learn magic.
I never felt a personal connection with the first couple of Harry Potters, but I sure as heck did with Twilight.
Lastly, WHO ARE YOU to decide what good writing is? Are you even a tweener anyways?
Twilight is just as much a fantasy book as HP is.
secondly, i'll admit stephenie's writing is sub-par compared to other writers when first reading i couldnt stand it but loved it anyway b/c of the plot and the suspense, which she is good at.
also, comparing her to J.K. Rowling or King or any other author is stupid. His work is way different and so is J.K.'s They both have a place on a shelf together, except for King cos i dont like horror lol.
Stephen king didn't say the books were bad. He just said that Stephanie wasn't the best writer.
I absolutely LOVE the twilight books. no joke ive read the whole series including midnight sun in order +10 times. The plot is awesome.
However I kinda agree with King. There are a lot of flaws. Imean some lines from the book look like they could have been written by a sixth grader. I don't think Stephanie is Horrible or anything like THAT. but i think her writing techniques COULD have been better.
twilight is still amazing though(=
You know; Bram Stoker *hint, hint*, Mary Shelley, J.K. Rowling, Jodi Piccoult, Charles Dickens, Chalotte Bronte, Edgar Allan Poe, Dean Koontz, WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE *HINT HINT*, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and so many other authors out there?
It's an overstatement saying Meyer is the best author in the world. I can admit, she's good, but she's not the next William Shakespeare (who practically set the standards for literature). But I'm not that fond of the Twilight series either. Personally, I'd like a heroine who stands up for herself and who is someone that young women aspire to be and to have a romance that was not solely based on how the other smells or looks.
I love Stephen King, he's not the next William Shakespeare either but I love a lot of his work. It just really grips me and it's just psychologically thrilling because that's how he knows what scares people. He does not just bring it up just because, in my opinion, he uses what he knows scares people the most and incorporates that into something that makes us not want to go near a sewer pipe again or even make fun of the weird chick in school.
I hope you find some other books besides Twilight. Although you love Twilight, there are other books out there and a lot of them are just phenomenal. Please don't bash me, I'm just getting my own opinion across! >.<
SMeyers best author in the world? Did you smoke pot or something? There are hundreds, thousands, millions and BILLIONS of writters better than SMeyers. That statement just show that you're either a pre-teen or somebody that has readed NOTHING in her all life.
You know who sucks? Edward!...Oh...wait, I forgot, he doesn't suck blood, he's to "adowable", "hawt" and "perfect" to do that even if he's a vampire! FAIL!
English is not my first language, so if my grammar or spelling is terrible...Sorry.
You're kidding, right?
Stephanie Meyer has sold what? 18 million copies of Twilight?
Stephen King has sold over 350 million copies of his books.
Stephanie Meyer sucks compared to King. Plus, don't get so wussy. He pretty much complimented her. he said the writing was bad, but the books served a good purpose. That is good.
He is entitled to his opinion, and frankly, I agree with him. Only on the part that she's not a good writer, not the Harry Potter comparison. Harry Potter is a literary masterpiece and beyond comparison. SM is not a good writer. And this story is not very original at all. To boot, her main character isn't interesting at all and is an idiot. The love story isn't very realistic, I mean why were the two of them drawn together? Other than the fact that Edward couldn't resist her blood. And he's not that interesting either. The only reason I read Twilight is because of Jacob. He is my favorite character and breathes some much needed life into the series. That is the only thing I really think she did well: she created Jacob Black. Bella and Jacob's romance is believable because the progressed from being best friends, which is a very likely situation. Other than that, she hasn't done anything right. Eclipse was painful and Breaking Dawn was excruciating. She destroyed the one character that she got right. What was she thinking?
See how comparison works? Certainly the Harry Potter series and the Twilight travesty are different - but not so much so that they are incomparable. Jesus.
Melissa, please do your research before you type, mmkay? It's one of SMeyer's numerous writing flaws. And "Meyer is the Queen"? I'd say you're the joker, because you're making me laugh.

Some you guys make me laugh then I remember that a lot of you are twelve. Yes Meyers' books are good, sometimes the writing falters and personally I think she wrapped it up just a little too neatly made it her own personal happy ending which is an injustice to the reader as it makes you (us) seem stupid, vapid creatures unable to stomach the fact that a Cullen could actually DIE!, Doesn't mean the books didn't mean something to the individual reader though. King is not arrogant or a snob by the way if you were nearly killed would you be able to drag yourself out of bed and go on? Think about that before you fling mud. They are both well deserving of praise but vastly different.
Stephenie Meyer had a dream about vampires and that's how the Twilight Saga began. Do you research! King has made a lot more money than Meyer and I can actually watch the movies his books are made into without wanting to claw my eyes out.
Go read the Shining or Salem's Lot and then come tell me Twilight it better.
I just don't get why everyone is pissed because he expressed his opinion. To Melissa: Step back and think about how much you are overreacting. It's ridiculous.
Shawshank Redemption- $28,341,469
The Secret Garden- $31,181,347
The Secret Window- $48,022,900
They don't even amount to how much Twilight made domestically, or even New Moon and it's not even finished in the box office yet.
The only ones that are pissed are the little teeny boppers. The rest of us, the ones who are actually members of this site, could give two sh*ts about his opinion.
S. Meyer pulled me into her world, a lot better than S. King ever did. (and believe me I tried) Then again, I don't like his genre so that's part of the reason.I don't read Twilight for literary purposes, it's for entertainment. My literary reads consist of Emily Bronte, Jane Austen, Pat Frank, and Mark Twain.
It basically boils down to everyone sharing a difference of opinion. So when you're defending people for writing their opinions on here, there's no need to deny others that right. Your comment to Melissa is unnecessary, she's entitled to same treatment. Let's not be bias here.
His writing is not sadistic. Just because it's a different genre than cliched romance doesn't make it twisted or horrible. I don't think Stephen King has any reason to be jealous of Stephenie Meyer because he's been a much greater success.
Obviously, anybody can say whatever they want but the truth is that I’m sick and tired of people criticizing Stephanie…shame on them! She has created a magical and lovely story about love, family, friendship in the middle of that fantastic world of hers that if there were Edwards out there walking on the streets (without been vampires of course) and family members now a day would treat each other with the respect and love that the Cullens do…we would certainly live in a better world.
So, it is everything about taste and in that sense there is no right or wrong…what some people might find interesting and great others don’t and the other way around…..obviously Stephanie has legions of fans in her side to support her work and what better proof of that than the success of the movie that by the way…I don’t remember any really successful movie based on this King’s horror stories. So, stop it OK! And stop the comparison with Harry Potter also….Twilight is a whole new and wonderful world… it has nothing to do with Harry Potter.

By the way, people are entitled to their opinions. However, this website is a fan site. It is meant for fans of the series. If you don't like the Twilight series and want to discuss things in that regard, I suggest you go to a discussion board.
In my opinion, I do feel that Stephenie Meyer is good. I don't think she's fantastic because there are very many other books I've read that have wonderful literacy techniques that I don't see in the Twilight Saga. I do agree with him when he talks about why he feels like the book connects to girls, especially teenagers. I mean honestly for me it's almost like a guilty pleasure reading these, everyone wishes for their own Edward or Jacob.. or they can relate to Bella.
I think Stephenie Meyer was brilliant for creating the world of Twilight, she did a wonderful job. You get pulled into another world which is exactly the objective. I feel that Harry Potter should be classified as something else entirely.. in Harry Potter the entire series has you guessing and wondering. Rowling uses tidbits from her first books and finds reasons to explain them in the later ones (Hagrid's motorcycle, for example). Although there is some mild touching on romance in the books, it really wouldn't be classified as such whereas Twilight would.

BTW, true fact: the best selling movie of all time was a porn flick.
Also, I agree that the success of Stephenie Meyer is the timeless idea of true love in the book; I agree that it could have been written better, with more realism in it for that matter. I found that some scenes she executed perfectly, but that her dialogue left alot to be desired.
BUT i'm not complaining because I LOVE TWILIGHT BOOKS!!!! <3

Look at the poll. I rest my case.
she said that she may have writen it about teenagers in high school but she did not specificaly write it for that particular age group. I have read her books many times and cant wait for midnight sun to come out so i can read it. And i am totaly excited about twilight and cant wait for new moon to come out . So to Stephen King get you nose out of the air and and stop downing other writers and their stories.

& Instead of her taking the book into some fantasy land, she put this in reality. So he finds it horrid.
& Of course he has a right to say what he wants. But its just idiotic.

not to mention almost every one of his books are movies XP

Anyway I guess what I'm saying is that SM must be doing something right beyond the story to keep people coming back to read the books. I mean if they were terribly written I don't think I could have gotten through the story. But the writing and the plot worked together and well....Twilight = love

and how would you define a terrific writer? a terrific writer is someone who can catch the readers interest and got a lot of readers, is it not? well, that's how you would descripe stephenie meyer, right? she's got a fanatic fanscare, so there must be something about her writing, that's good. or else there wouldn't be soo gard damn many screaming fans. i mean, how many hits on one of stephen kings books? how many on, well whatever random book by her? who's got most succes? who's best? well, probably the one with most succes.
and who is he to decide, anyway?

how can he say that she isnt a talented writer? I read a lot and her books are EASILY the best i've read in a while, i do agree about Jodi Picoult and JK rowling are both very good too but he's not.
his books kinda scare me a little
sometimes - when i can fallow and understand what he's saying

They're fictional characters okay? F-I-C-T-I-O-N-A-L They do not exist, no super 'roided vampire is going to show up and sweep you off your feet. Have some perspective okay? There are far more pressing matters in the world (which King's books do address!!) And you are stuck in a little "OMG EDWRD's SO SMEXY" world.
Put your book down. Get some help. Wake up. Simple.
He's one of the most respected authors of the past few decades. People want his opinion on books. Someone obviously asked him these questions. The problem with (many) Twilight fans is that they think it's the best piece of literature out there and it's not. It's a just story.
Also, he criticized her writing. That doesn't mean he hates her or the books. Honestly, as an author, Meyer should read criticisms of her books and use them to make her future books better.
...that just depreciated the point of your entire message. or the point you were trying to make. sorry, sweetie. you fail.
MAYBE EVEN MORE SUCCESS THAN HE DID IN HIS HAYDAY SINCE TWILIGHT SERIES DOESN'T SHOW ANY SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN.
JUST JEALOUSY,...
1. HE HAD SUCCESSFUL BOOKS, SO DOES MEYERS AND MAKING MORE MONEY
2. WHOSE BOOKS HAVE REIGNED IN THE TOP SELLING LISTS LONGER THAN ANY OTHER.... MEYER'S, UNLIKE HIS
3. HIS BOOKS WERE MADE INTO MOVIES BUT MOSTLY MADE FOR TV AND MEYERS BOOKS ARE BEING MADE INTO MOVIES FOR THE BIG SCREEN AND MAKING CRAZY MONEY
4.HIS BOOOKS NEVER GOT THIS MUCH PUBLICITY AS MEYERS' IS
5. NOBODY EVER MADE ANY FAN COLLECTOR MERCHANDISE FOR HIS STUFF AS MUCH AS THERE IS FOR MEYER'S BOOKS
6. WHO HAS MORE WEBSITES, BLOGS, FORUMS, ETC. BASED ON THE POPULARITY OF THEIR BOOKS...MEYERS.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JEALOUSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND HE IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE BEING IGNORED AND TRYING TO GET IN THIS SPOTLIGHT..... PITIFULLY ASKING "HEY REMEMBER ME, LOOK AT ME,LOOK AT ME"
PITIFUL, HE JUST DROVE POSSIBLY MANY FANS OR POSSIBLE FANS AWAY FROM HIS STUFF FOR BEING SO DISRESPECTFUL.
I FOR ONE KIND OF ENJOY(ED) HIS STUFF AND HAD NO ILL THOUGHTS TOWARD HIM UNTIL NOW, AND NOW I FEEL THE INCLINATION TO STAY AWAY FROM WHATEVER HAS TO DO WITH HIM. FUNNY HOW HATIN' ON SOMEONE WORKS TO THEIR DISADVANTAGE!
TOUCHY AREN'T WE? <- here's more for you since you did thank me for it and you might need more...umm what you call it???
Oh, TED, please endow us with more of your wisdom! You don't sound like a hypocrite at all!
"and because someone doesn't share your thoughts makes you intelligent?"
LOL WUT. Says the person who claims their opinions are facts.
btw TED (caps...really?) your entire message is full of flaws.
1. king has sold more books and has made more money than meyers ever will because of the percentage he gets from all his adapted works.
2. although meyer has the best selling book among the two, she has sold only 40 million books sold worldwide, where king can boast 300 million.
3. oh, so false! he has had some television series and afew of his big screen movies have been redone for the small screen, but the number is in no way compareable to the success he had in the theatres. to name a few: shawshank redemption, misery, the green mile, carrie, 1408, stand by me, the secret window, hearts is atlantis, children of the corn, christine, dreamcatcher, needfull things, the stand, IT....do i need to go on? all big screen adaptations of his books and there are several more.
and i think i should mention the fact that shawshank, misery, the green mile and carrie all got oscar nods, and misery took the best actress award. something i don't see happening for twilight.
5. over the 40 + years he has been writting you really think she's got him beat? do some fact checking before you go ranting.
6. 9/10 normal, everyday people will hear the word 'twilight' and know whats going on. ask the same people unpropted who stephanie meyer is and 4/10 will know she wrote the books. i'm not talking about teenagers, i mean every age group as a whole.
fact is, you can't make that claim. twilight has only been around for a very short time. it is a flash in the pan compared to his catalogue.
10/10 people know who king is, what he looks like and can name at least five of his works. that is a fact.
you are just another example of an uberfan taking things way out of proportion. the guy had an opinion. he made a point, her writting is lacking in many areas but he doesn't condemn her success. relax kid, there are bigger things in this world than a few books and a movie.
also, learn how to take it as well as dish it out. when you lash out in capslock it makes you look like a goober.
peace.
awesome
At this point she might have more quantity despite the quality than any other author whose books go by way of hollywood and beyond the bookstore and beyond the U.S.
so what if it isn't exactly classical lit that meyer's has written but sure enough it will be remembered through history to the chagrin of lit critics or not right along with all other succesful authors.
This much fame and controversary that is certainly not going unnoticed is bound to g down in literary history or pop culture.
I mean look at us here debating contoversy after controversy. Has any other literary work gone through this!!!!???
Who has heard of it nowadays, besides English majors specializing in British literature? 'Twilight' is very poorly written: it's full of typos, grammatically incorrect sentences, and purple prose. It has about the same dramatic pacing as bridge construction, and has very little in the way of a plot. There's no two ways around it- Stephenie Meyer needs a real editor who will tell her when things are bad. Because an awful lot is bad.
This isn't even getting into all the toxic messages in the books, like suicide being romantic, obsession being love, and stalking being sweet. Add that to grown men falling in love with little girls, abuse spawning instant "true love", and all the female characters but one being weak-willed milksops who cling to their men come hell or high water (or invasion of privacy, blatant disrespect, kidnapping, stealing, assaulting, and mutilating).
Stephenie Meyer isn't just a bad writer, she writes about bad things. The sad part is, she doesn't seem to realize these awful things are anything but wonderful. I think it's about time someone took her down a peg- she's been saying that her series is better than anything Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, or the Bronte sisters wrote, and has even been comparing herself to Shakespeare. Frankly, the woman is full of herself, and it's great that a respected author isn't putting up with her shenanigans.
P.S. By the way, the fact that she is, or claims to be a Mormon has nothing to do with the way she writes. Most Mormons I know are disgusted with her stories.
Putting the point of Smeyer having more merchandise for her books isn't a comparable point though, since her and SK aren't in the same market (though, having a Pennywise doll and a killer ghost car would be cool). As for the movies, let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. SMeyer has had only one movie so far, and yes, NM and Eclipse will have theirs, but not yet. SK has more theatrical movies under his belt. As for the marketing, SMeyer has the advantage of being in the internet era. Word of mouth is spread faster and to more people than SK had even 15 years ago. That's why Twilight is so successful, not to mention that it IS a marketable medium, unlike SK whose books are more adult and deal with horror, something that even today isn't that popular (there are exceptions of course). Yet, SK will be remembered for those strange, twisted books and some of the finest movies to come out in the 20th century. We will have to see is SMeyer's success can hold up ten years from now.
And sweetheart, Twilight is a fad. It's not the first fad nor will it be the last. You need to stop thinking it's the Bible.
And him giving an opinion doesn't make his works any less magnificent.
4.HIS BOOOKS NEVER GOT THIS MUCH PUBLICITY AS MEYERS' IS"
Um, you're kind of wrong.
3. Dolores Claiborne, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption (Oscar Nominated), Cujo, Pet Semetary, Dreamcatcher, Hearts in Atlantis, The Shining (the Kubrick one) and I'm probably forgetting a couple.
4. His Dark Tower trilogy got just as much publicity when he finished it about 4 years ago. and it has tons of merchandise and also a graphic novel about it now.
Google, learn it please.
And as for "he asks (I'm guessing you meant *acts*) like he invented literature", you obviously don't know who he is. He's practically renowned as one of, if not THE, greatest authors out there. He may not have invented literature, but he's damn well good enough to judge a book.
And even so, why the Hell does it matter to you? You're mad 'cause he has an opinion? Umm....news flash! What you JUST SAID was an opinion. Go be mad at yourself now.
Also, I've read almost all of King's books and I'm nowhere near 40.
Kthxbai
hes legendary :D
btw, what do u think bram stoker would think of what meyers has done to his genre, THEY DONT F***ING SPARKLE!!,
oh yeah and i did read twilight, the first seven chapters then i went 2 a corner and felt like killing myself
Anyone with at least average intelligence - and who is not kidding themselves - would graciously admit that Stephenie's talent as a writer is more to do with her characters appealing to a specific audience and less to do with her technical writing skills.
I personally enjoyed the books very much. I found Stephenie to be an evocative writer, particularly with regard to the teen angst element of the saga. There were parts that I found unnecessary, and seemed to play to much upon the whimsy of a romantic; but overall the story that she presented trumped the need for infallible technique. [Well, for this vampire buff it did.]
I also enjoy Stephen King's books, and his writing skill is far above Stephenie Meyer's, as is JK Rowling's. Having published 70 odd books would make him more qualified to judge writing skill than the average person; just as having a Bachelor of Arts majoring in literature would. He has spent more time perfecting his own writing technique than Stephenie has.
Perhaps if you spent some time reading books written by some truly amazing authors, you would see his comment for what it really was too. Try some JRR Tolkien if you're intelligent enough to stick with it.
Also, it's not like appealing to an older audience is a bad thing. Do you really think King was trying to appeal to Meyers demographic of teenaged girls when he wrote his books? Are teenagers somehow better than your average forty-year-olds in your opinion?
plus harry poter dragged on in the end the 1st 3 books were fine and then it became dursleys, travel, hogwarts, sport, trouble, wheyhey harry beat voldermort AGAIN!! it became predicatble.
in new moon you wernt expecting edward to leave, yea the book has flaws ALL books do!!
sk has a right to voice his professional opinion but its about time people stopped comparing sm an jkr as they are two completly diferent genres (except myths)
Message to Stephenie, Write what you like, cause obviously it works!!!
Message to Stephenie, Write what you like, cause obviously it works!!!
Secondly, it is a little slow to compare King to Meyer right now. King has done many many pieces and Meyer has four, technically one if you consider the fact that Twilight is the head of a saga and that they are not four completely seperate standng books. Meyer may or may not amount to what King is but only time will tell. For all we know she could be the next Lewis or Tolkein or she could be a one (or four) hit wonder and fade back into oblivian like so many authors do.
Thirdly, He is not bashing the books. Did you read the entire comment before throwing a tantrum. I mean really, and this goes for all of you that keep saying he is jealous or whatever. He backs his comment by saying that the reason he compares Rowling and Meyer is because, while the books are different, they address relatively the same audience. The person that said Twilight is meant for the older individuals, did you read the last three books in the series of Potter, They were meant to grow with their audience and did so very nicely. As a result, they merger directly with the base for the twilight saga. That makes his comparison a valid consideration.
Fourthly, and this continues to the jealousy claimers, HE DISSES HIMSELF TOO!!!! He takes care to acknoledge that he enjoys a different generation than we do. The whole point of mentioning his mother was to say that the generation before him would probably argue that he couldn't write and yet he still had success. So maybe, just maybe, she could be a good writer and just not to his generational taste. His going on to mention other authors was just to further his initial point of it depends on who you ask.
Next, He isn't insulting the readers of the saga. He is saying that based on the facts he listed, she has some qualities as a writer that are worth being considered. If anything you could take it as a glint that he still may respect her as an author, if not as one he would enjoy. Really, does anyone look at the statement rationally or even bother to read it straight through to the end before flying off the handle.
I am a big fan of King and I enjoyed Meyer a good deal. Some say that she gets too depictive, but I enjoy the analyzing of characters so that fact was actually to my likeing. No two authors are the exact same and no two readers are going to view her the same way. The greats are not determined by who sold the most or made the biggest names. They are determined by what stands firm over time. I mean really, I can't read more than five pages of Dickens 50 page Christmas Carol without needing someone to cmack me in the head to wake up. But the meaning behind the writing and its ability to remain relavent through the generations makes it a classic. He gave his opinion just as any human has the right to do. Are you going to stand there and sream foul play just because the words are coming from a fellow writer and not a common reader. And its not that he says we love the books for being about sex. He's saying that he appreciates she was able to address the topic that because more and more prevalent to teen girls in such a way that it doesn't become a porn novel. At least thats how I took it. In closing, please take the whole piece into consideration, not just what you want to use to fuel an arguement, look at the facts first, yelling at people just because they don't agree (even if it is just in cap locks on a computer) is ignorant and mean, excuse my horrible spelling and remember that it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all ability to doubt it. And oh yeah, i'm two weeks into being 21 not 40 for those of you that claim the old age fan base for King and I only picked him up because I got sick of a large number of my friends discussion his books and not having a clue what they were talking about. Actually, my sister in law never shutting up about them is the only reason I read the twilight saga, so I guess the two have more in common than even I thought lol :) - pieces with your reeces and GB -
Get your facts straight before you talk trash sweetheart.
relax.
Again obvious fangirl who is so narrow minded she can't get HER nose out of the air.
Nice one.
i can't find it anywhere and i'm curios to see how she worded it
i love robert pattinson!!!!

calm. down. remember, opinions are good things.
I THINK HE IS JUST JEALOUS, HE WANTS PUBLICITY.
STEPHENIE IS NOT A BAD WRITER, HER BOOKS ARE ONLY EASY TO READ. IN MY POINT OF VIEW IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOU WRITE, ITS MORE IMPORTANT TO HAVE A GOOD STORY,WHICH THIS MAN DOESN'T HAVE :P
GEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZ HERE I HAVE ANOTHER REASON TO DISLIKE THIS MAN.

Epic adventure, non-stop action and emotion, masterful characterization, magnificent use of literary devices such as foreshadowing and symbolism, realistic relationships, and well-thought out plot with spine-tingling endings. Meyer and Brown got it going on!
Yeah, if you love Meyer, you'll love Dan Brown!
No doubt. No. Doubt.
Meyer? She's just a woman who had a hawt dream about a sexy guy and decided to slap him and a self insert of herself into a crappy novel with a mediocre plot.
Her ideas for wars between vampires and werewolves? Done.
Her idea for a half-vampire child? Done.
Her idea for insanely beautiful vampires? Done.
Her idea for a teenage girl falling in love with a vampire? Done.
Her idea for vampires that suck animal blood instead of human, because they have massive guilt complexes about being murderers? Done.
Her idea for vampires with super-special powers and almost no weaknesses? Done.
Her idea for vampires who aren't destroyed in the sunlight? Done.
What has she done that's original, besides make a ridiculous explanation for why her vampires are glittery? After all, if they're rock-solid, they should be unable to move, and should also always be slightly cooler than room temperature, not ice cold.
You obviously have no idea who you're talking about when you say he's 'just jealous'. Do you have any idea as to the extent of his fame and fortune he's amassed over the years? Why would he be 'jealous' of a no talent hack?

Don't get me wrong, it is VERY entertaining, even King agreed to that in so many words, but her writing could've been better. Anyone will agree TWILIGHT was a successful novel, but numbers don't equate the quality of a book. Besides, a lot of twilighters often say how it's the first book they ever enjoyed so, frankly, if TWILIGHT is the only book a person read they wouldn't have much to compare it to.
Also, who is Edward outside of loving Bella and being a good looking gentleman who wrote one song for her? He had more of a personality in the first one, but in the next three he's always obsessed with her safety. He lost his sense of humor. The characters don't have very much depth outside of their "love" for each other. Who is Bella outside of loving Edward? She's stubborn and likes reading, but what about her personality? What are her goals in life?
Stephenie Meyer also contradicts herself a lot and the last book was full of weakly constructed back-stories. A good writer will have a story outlined from beginning to end and will use something called foreshadowing. Meyer seems to make her story up as she goes along. When asked if she would change anything about TWILIGHT she said herself that she wishes it would've been better written.

As far as I'm concered, he can say whatever he wants about anyone.
As far as I'm concered, he can say whatever he wants about anyone.
Anne Rice is kida: Mother of the modern vampires
Especially considering that he has made millions of dollars writing books (good books, unlike Meyer) and making movies. I don't care what Meyer does, she will never ever ever ever EVER be as famous, as rich, or as good as Stephen King.
Also, saying that you're 33 and like her isn't some badge of honor. It's embarassing.
FAIL.

Most people here are idiots, but you shine above the rest.
King is not jealous believe me, he is a proper writer who deserves his success. He is known and respected in most countries while the Twilight craze is centred mainly in the US.
It doesn't matter how you write...if your a writer? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I shouldn't even have to explain this one. Meyer is the one without the good story here. Vampire/Human romance is a dead pony that's been continually beaten over the years, she's introduced nothing new or interesting. King is a true innovator, you would know that if you had the mental capacity to deal with his books.
And I have another reason to hate Twilighters.

As for your question about why Twilight is so popular, well... Let's be honest. Popularity =/= good.
FAIL.
Oh, and George Bush got re-elected in 04 with the popular vote. It didn't make him the best president ever now, did it?
Meyer is NOT a talented writer. There are inconsistencies, grammar and spelling mistakes all on top of undeveloped characters. All of these point towards amateur writing.
King is a genius, Meyer is an idiot who lucked out.

The point of horror is to scare you!
If you take it so seriously that you're up all night out of fear, then you're not mature enough to read (let alone appreciate) his books.

she said that she may have writen it about teenagers in high school but she did not specificaly write it for that particular age group. I have read her books many times and cant wait for midnight sun to come out so i can read it. And i am totaly excited about twilight and cant wait for new moon to come out . So to Stephen King get you nose out of the air and and stop downing other writers and their stories.
2. Clearly people want to read the horror genre, or it wouldn't exist. Besides, quite a few of his works became movies, dont'cha know.
3. Meyer's whole thing with backstories could definitely work to her advantage, except she never DOES anything with them. I mean, I was truly fascinated with Alice's backstory, but we never hear of it ever again. Instead, all we get is Cullen and Bella's "lust-not-love" relationship... Over and over and over again.
3b. Detail is good. Repeating thousands of times how pretty Cullen is... Um, boring. And repetitive.
4. How do you know that Mr. King has his nose in the air? Do I have my nose in the air because I think the Twilight series is badly written? No! It's his personal opinion. He may be a famous novelist, but he's still a person. I'm sure he likes quite a few new authors, but Meyer just isn't one of them.
FAIL.
Go do some research before spouting out crap.
& Instead of her taking the book into some fantasy land, she put this in reality. So he finds it horrid.
& Of course he has a right to say what he wants. But its just idiotic.
FAIL.
man its just rediculous for him to go publicly and say such a thing. yes its his opinion but it makes me think he is just trying to get attention because he is a has-ben!
Also, it's not random. From what I understand, he was asked this by an interviewist, and he told the truth. He gave his honest opinion.
By your logic, Stephen King is the better author, since he has the most success. Am I right?
Why the hell would he be jealous? I mean, he's already a famous author, he's already made who-knows-how-much on his books, he's sold millions of books. WHY would he be jealous? Jeez, you twifans just can't make up your mind. Like some one's already said, Anti-Twilighters are always told that we have no right to judge because we haven't sold a best-selling novel yet. Then, when a best-selling novelist actually does speak up, you guys don't listen to him either and just say he's jealous!
Le sigh.
but you'twihards are also very bad at the pre-rant fact check. he told his opinion because he was asked for it. he can judge her writting because of his immennse experience and because he was asked to do so. i very much doubt he is going for this "leader of the books" title. and he doesn't only write horror, he has written comedy, drama, action and thriller as well.
...and his stories produce oscars. maybe i hadn't noticed, but i don't think twilight was nominated this year....
And I don't care how great of an author people make him out to be, it's all opinionated. And it's really pathetic that he feels the urge to put down other authors who enjoy writing. Ugh! He needs to get a life!

???????????????????????????????????????
how can you even SAY that Stephanie Meyers puts that in her book. REALISTIC? when a guy leaves a girl, it is not realistic for her to cry over him for months and cut off every other aspect of her life. It is not realistic to forgive people the way Bella forgives Edward all the time and sparkling vampires and "realistic" can never be used in the same sentence!
and if you want boring, read New Moon.

'King is just an idiotic old dude'
I am prepared to respond to others in the manner they present themselves.
how can he say that she isnt a talented writer? I read a lot and her books are EASILY the best i've read in a while, i do agree about Jodi Picoult and JK rowling are both very good too but he's not.
his books kinda scare me a little
sometimes - when i can fallow and understand what he's saying
Meyer is NOT a talented writer. There are inconsistencies, grammar and spelling mistakes all on top of undeveloped characters. All of these point towards amateur writing.
King is a genius, Meyer is an idiot who lucked out.
And it is a fact that there are inconsistencies, grammar and spelling mistakes. An example would be at some point in Breaking Dawn (I think) Bella serves Charlie waffles, only to have him 'frown into his cereal bowl'. A good writer would proof read and pick up on this. Meyer regularly uses dashes where commas are required and commas where dashes are required. I wont even go into the spelling mistakes.
I don't think you are ever going to read this but in the unlikely event that you do, just remember that most of these little girls bitching about how great their idiotic fluff author is don't even know who you are.
King: 100 novels and a cornucopia of (amazing) short stories published
Meyer: 5 novels published
King: classic adaptations of his work - Shining, Shawshank, Green Mile, Stand By Me
Meyer: one adaption = one of the worst movies ever made
Knowing you're right in this argument
Priceless.

Actually he does have the right. As I recall it's a published put out in the public.
And no, Meyer isn't realistic. She's just awful.

He's wrote more books, has more fans, can actually write good literature, had his book turned into movies, and has been on the bestseller many times and he's jealous of Meyer? I really doubt that. Of course, his romance isn't what you're looking for, he doesn't write romance.
And Twlight is only for girls or they're gay.

Stephenie has introduced something new and exciting. Have you ever heard a story like the Twilight saga before?? Sure maybe you've heard of vampires and humans but that doesn't mean she is repeating a story. Saying Stephenie hasn't introduced something new is just like saying Stephen King hasn't. He has written tons of horror stories. Are you going to say that his stuff isn't interesting because he has written the same type of story over and over again??? Have people never heard of horror before him?? Exactly. Now what do you have to say to that??
Oh and two more question. If you hate these books so much, why are you wasting your time commenting over and over again about them?? Do you not have anything better to do with your life??

He was asked for his opinion, he gave it.
Yes, I have heard of a story like Twilight before. Everything is recycled.
Werewolf vs Vampire? Check.
New girl? Check.
Bad boy? Check.
Freaky pregnancy? Check.
Coven? Check.
But I concede the Meyer has brought one new thing in. Sparkling vampires. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing. By making them sparkle, she has removed everything scary about vampires.
King hasn't written the same story all over again. Read The Shining and then read the Dark Tower books. Vastly different. I read Twilight, and I read The Host. Both had the archetypal boy and the archetypal girl.
People have heard of horror before, it would be idiotic to assume otherwise. But what King did was bring a new slant to horror, he (as well as others) made horror psychological instead of ghosts saying 'boo'. Tell me, has Meyer done that? I never once related to Bella, but I could (on a certain level) relate to Jack's frustration in the Shining.
And as to whether or not I have anything better to do; it's the evening for me. I'm relaxing after a day spent with my friends. I happen to enjoy a little bit of a debate to keep my brain active.

'celebs' don't have to be real people, even.
So, one day, guess who he puts up: Harry Potter VS Edward Cullen. By the end of the week, the results were as so...
Harry Potter > Edward Cullen.
;D
The masses have spoken. Twilight doesn't win after all, oh ho.
Also, when Meyer has sold as many books as he has, has years of experience, and has some of her movies become oscar nominees, then I'll believe what you're saying to a degree. If Meyer can do all that, then MAYBE she'll be on King's level.
I also have the sneaking suspicion that you have never read any of his books, have you?
couldn't have said it better myself =)
couldn't have said it better myself =)
This is the internet, I am allowed to comment just as much as you are. How I choose to go about it may be a tad rude, but you're not being particularly pleasant yourselves.
And for the record; yes. This is the internet. The only 'butt kicking' will be verbal, and it's clear you're not going to get very far.
People have opinions- quit hatin on eachother. like seriously-- it's a book. Some people will like it-- or in my case love it. but others may hate it. Who cares. honestly.
btw- although ive said before that i LOVE the twilight saga.
i once again have to agree with king- Stephanie is not the most skilled writer-- imean have you guys read her book The Host yet? She had horrible writing techniques, and the plot was devastatingly slow.
sorry my other post was meant to be here
What is new and intresting in that??
What makes King's books new and interesting is what goes on in the books. Sure many of them end in death but what makes his books interesting is, like you said, the path to the death. His premises and the events in the books are what makes for an interesting read.
The premise for Twilight is a girl falls in love with a vampire.
oh come on!! if you are on this site then you are obsessed..... just admit it and live with it!!! :-)
oh come on!! if you are on this site then you are obsessed..... just admit it and live with it!!! :-)
When asked if she would change anything about TWILIGHT she said herself that she wishes it would've been better written.
couldn't have said it better myself =)
Honestly, people? The question wasn't "How can Meyer be a better writer?" It was more a "How do writers influence the next generation?" And he stated his opinion. It wasn't even a horribly insulting opinion, by the way...unlike quite a few comments. Case closed.

And to Mr. Stephen King... i admire you before, but what you did and say was quite very disappointing... You're sourgraping waaaaaahhhh!!!
and one more thing.... the books does not only capture teenagers... maybe he should try to see TwilightMOMS website so that he'll know many Moms all over the world are crazy over Twilight and Edward as well.... including myself hahahah!

As far as I'm concered, he can say whatever he wants about anyone.
It's as if the only thing said so far is "OMG HE IS SO INSECURE BECAUSE HE'S OLD AND UGLY." Don't forget he's got best-sellers on best-sellers, that he has movies that are practically classics by now. People still refer to The Shining, Carrie, The Green Mile, Cujo, Pet Semetary...not to mention The Dark Tower saga. What's there to be insecure about?

when i was watching Nightmares and dreamscapes i couldn't go to sleep for like an hour after that... yes I read the books and i like them but i agree she is not that great of a writer... i really did not like BD... i felt like it was being rushed just to get everything to end and to get to the "happy ending"

Anyway, you're young. I read a lot of crap when I was your age too. I didn't think a bad book existed. But now that I've gone through tons upon tons of English courses, I've learned what constitutes as bad writing. I've learned to analyze books. And as you get older, you may too. Maybe you'll find that Twilight isn't as great as you thought it was. Sure, you might still like it, but maybe you'll also realize that it does have its flaws and isn't the best book ever.
I'm guessing it was meant to scare the hell out of people. I get the feeling he's going to crawl out of my computer monitor and attack me D:

obviously, he's jealous because no one is buying his books already...even if these books are good... and he should accept the fact that Twilight Series are the #1 bestseller all over the world... So for those who hate twilight... better go home... why are you here??? you're just hurting yourself hahahaha!!!

Or, you know, you could grow a couple and realize that he has free speech and that Stephenie isn't the best time EVAR. Perhaps you should shut your mouth if you have nothing good to say? I'm just here for the lulz - keep providing them, baby!

And I don't care how great of an author people make him out to be, it's all opinionated. And it's really pathetic that he feels the urge to put down other authors who enjoy writing. Ugh! He needs to get a life!
Actually he does have the right. As I recall it's a published put out in the public.
And no, Meyer isn't realistic. She's just awful.
And I assure you, no one could love me more than her.
and seriously...if you still believe in vampires and shizz you need a reality check
I'm telling you this out of concern for your health, not out of a desire to attack you. Please, if a guy dumps you, *no matter how much you loved him*, play Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" and get on with your life. Because it's really unlikely that he'll have dumped you for *your* benefit, and you would owe it to yourself and your family to move on.
If you don't believe me, talk to an adult that you trust - chances are they'll have experienced it themselves.
(I liked Twilight, by the way, and up until now I didn't see any harm in the books. But if they're making people believe that Bella's reaction to Edward's disappearance is healthy, then...)
Priceless.
You obviously have no idea who you're talking about when you say he's 'just jealous'. Do you have any idea as to the extent of his fame and fortune he's amassed over the years? Why would he be 'jealous' of a no talent hack?

He was asked about what he thought about Meyer's work and he was giving his honest opinion about. With all they overrated hype about Meyer, he probably read the books thinking they might be great and was disappointed that they weren't up to his standards.

While I think what he said was a little harsh, I don't think he sucks at all. They are both completely different writers. I agree with what many people said here - Stephanie is an amazing STORYTELLER, but writer... well, I didn't think she did a bad job, but it wasn't amazing. Her storytelling abilities make up for it, in my opinion, because I read A LOT and it's rare that I find a book that I'm so in enthralled in. I thought her books were awesome because you get so into the characters and the story; you feel what they feel, want what they want, etc. But I agree with what others have said; how her characters can be shallow/undeveloped outside of their love for one another.
I'd love to know how many Stephen King novels most of you posters have read - I'm betting the majority of you have read 0. Like I said, I read a lot - doesn't mean I know more about books than you, but I have read many, many books and I can usually tell (for me, anyways) when a book is going to be garbage. I enjoy his novels; I've read quite a few of them too (my favorite has to be The Stand) He has his flaws, too of course; my biggest gripe with him is that he drags scenes out that SHOULD last 3-5 pages but last 20-30 pages, sometimes whole chapters... it kills me. He also usually kills off the people I like the most, lol, but that's not really a writing flaw...
Anyways, what I was trying to say is that they are both different authors and both attract different readers. He was just expressing his opinion, and I would hope we would all be mature enough to accept that not EVERYONE on the face of the planet is going to be all omgz Twilight rulez!!! Don't bash another author until you've read them and decided for yourself; personal opinions don't reflect talent/ability anyways.

Sounds to me like maybe he is a bit envious since his success is currently now just a shadow. Maybe he should follow up with a new book since he thinks hes a better writer than her.

And him giving an opinion doesn't make his works any less magnificent.

I disagree with Stephen King, Stephenie Meyer isn't a terrible writer; she just needs some improvement.
I think she is a good author, but certainly not better than Stephen King, J.K Rowling, Sidney Sheldon, or even C.S. Lewis!
I like Twilight, but its definitely not the best book ever. I personally think that only brain-dead teenagers who obviously haven't read any other book besides Twilight, think that Twilight is "teh best book in the wolrd".
Thank you.

Wow, freedom of speech is foreign concept to you, isn't it?
We will have to see is SMeyer's success can hold up ten years from now.

obviously, he's jealous because no one is buying his books already...even if these books are good... and he should accept the fact that Twilight Series are the #1 bestseller all over the world... So for those who hate twilight... better go home... why are you here??? you're just hurting yourself hahahaha!!!
Yeah, some of us find your words hypocritical, yet hilarious. Keep it up.
Look him up please. People are buying his books. And she's not a bestseller all over the world. That's reserved for good writers.
And sweetheart, Twilight is a fad. It's not the first fad nor will it be the last. You need to stop thinking it's the Bible.

Stop getting angry. It's not a big deal.
second of all Twilight was Stephenie's first book and it got published and made into a move not to long after. now they are working the second movie not even half a year after Twilight was release into theaters.
i think Stephenie is good and does not deserve comments like "Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.” that just ticked me off.

I discovered the Twilight books in December. It's now February and I've read all 4 three times [so far] and downloaded the partial from Steph's website. Her ability to write; connect; KNOW those feelings is fantastic. Her humour had me lying in bed at 3am, laughing out loud!
At the end of the day - they all bring enjoyment - and I'm uncertain why anyone would voice an opinion such as that - other than jealousy!

And I assure you, no one could love me more than her.

Don't you think you're overreacting? You're acting like Ms. Meyer is some sort of god. She's not. She's a poor writer who happens to know how to appeal to teenage girls who don't read. Or who read sappy teen romances, which also tend to be poorly written. Honestly, you want to KILL Stephen King for expressing his opinion? That's horrible. I don't understand why you Twilighters think you can go around singing the book's praises, but the minute someone DARES to give an opposing opinion, you go batshit crazy on them and tell them to shut up or threaten them. Guess what, kiddo? People have different opinions. You can't go through life telling people to shut up (or threatening to KILL THEM) because you don't agree with them.
Also, I'm fairly certain Stephen King has been criticized a fair few times throughout his career. I doubt he minds it. After all, criticism is essential to writing. If I was Meyer, I would totally ask King what he didn't like about my books and take his advice to improve my writing. But knowing her, she probably won't. Because that's what good authors do, and she couldn't be further from one.
I can't wait till Meyer publishes her ridiculous little 'cannibal-mermaids-who-eat-humans- therefore-they're-not-really-cannibals-and-guess-what-they're-not-called-mermaids-either-but-sirens-and-they-time-travel' story so people can see her for the hack she really is.

Look up Stephen King, and see what's he's done. He's not envious.
right off the bat you depreciated your entire point with that comment, or the point you were trying to make. you fail.

As for Twilight being realistic. Two words. Sparkling Vampires.

Truth is.. nobody gives a damn about SK books anymore, and hes just seeking some headlines. SK is the past.. Meyer may or may not be the future, but he shouldn't be bashing other authors.
As for my opinion? Jackee above me and Jet up the top pretty much summed it up. SKing didn't say the books are bad, he just said that SMeyers can't write. He didn't question their similarity to the HP series, he just compared SMeyers to JK (due to being ASKED).
As much as I love the series, its frustrating to see 'some' people here just screaming "OMG STOP COMPARING HARRY POTTER TO TWILIGHT!" and "STEVEN KING IS OLD AND UGLY SO HE OBVIOUSLY DOESNT KNOW WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT!".
Use some sense please, and keep in mind that the article you read was very one sided. I'm not a huge fan of Steven King or any of his work but everything he said above was completely correct.

btw TED (caps...really?) your entire message is full of flaws.
1. king has sold more books and has made more money than meyers ever will because of the percentage he gets from all his adapted works.
2. although meyer has the best selling book among the two, she has sold only 40 million books sold worldwide, where king can boast 300 million.
3. oh, so false! he has had some television series and afew of his big screen movies have been redone for the small screen, but the number is in no way compareable to the success he had in the theatres. to name a few: shawshank redemption, misery, the green mile, carrie, 1408, stand by me, the secret window, hearts is atlantis, children of the corn, christine, dreamcatcher, needfull things, the stand, IT....do i need to go on? all big screen adaptations of his books and there are several more.
and i think i should mention the fact that shawshank, misery, the green mile and carrie all got oscar nods, and misery took the best actress award. something i don't see happening for twilight.
5. over the 40 + years he has been writting you really think she's got him beat? do some fact checking before you go ranting.
6. 9/10 normal, everyday people will hear the word 'twilight' and know whats going on. ask the same people unpropted who stephanie meyer is and 4/10 will know she wrote the books. i'm not talking about teenagers, i mean every age group as a whole.
fact is, you can't make that claim. twilight has only been around for a very short time. it is a flash in the pan compared to his catalogue.
10/10 people know who king is, what he looks like and can name at least five of his works. that is a fact.
you are just another example of an uberfan taking things way out of proportion. the guy had an opinion. he made a point, her writting is lacking in many areas but he doesn't condemn her success. relax kid, there are bigger things in this world than a few books and a movie.
also, learn how to take it as well as dish it out. when you lash out in capslock it makes you look like a goober.
peace.

This is the internet, I am allowed to comment just as much as you are. How I choose to go about it may be a tad rude, but you're not being particularly pleasant yourselves.
And for the record; yes. This is the internet. The only 'butt kicking' will be verbal, and it's clear you're not going to get very far.

There is, however, and human/vampire love story that seems almost completely forgotten nowadays, which is amusing since Twilight seems to have been directly lifted from this story and then scrubbed of all meaningful content (which is something of an accomplishment given the original story was a 1960's soap opera).
It appealed to audiences for the exact same reasons Twilight does, the exact same reasons that Mr. King gives curiously enough, and yet somehow the original is still more satisfying than its watered down successor.
Myer's did not create something new, or find a hole in the market. Dan Curtis did the work for her, but it seems this is only know to those of us who still lurk in the Dark Shadows.

SMeyer has written an exquisite love story that different generations can connect with. Her writing is very simple. Her vocabulary and sentence structure is easy to follow. This makes it an easy read and allows you to read through the books quickly and stay with the story. Her focus audience (from the publisher's point of view) was teens and her style fits them completely. (She, of course, wrote Twilight just for herself. Therefore, there was no need to get complex with anything.)
JKRowling and SMeyer are being compared because of the popularity of their books with their fan base. There is no other comparison to make.
JKRowling's book have an intricate plot with a much higher vocabulary (and plenty of made up words for the world she created). Her sentence structure is much more complex, as well. She keeps you guessing throughout the entire book, trying to figure out the end.
Each of these authors is great in their own way. I LOVE SKing's movies but I am not a big horror story reader so I can't say I've ever had the desire to read his books. SMeyer and JKRowling both have my undying respect because their books completely entertained me, and I would read anything writting by either of these authors.
There is no reason to hate on any of them. We all have opinions. And we share them as well. Enjoy what you like. Don't read what you don't. But any author who has been picked up by a publishing company and has had their books read and has had a fan based enjoy them is to be respected in their own rights.

Le sigh.

I didn't care for Dracula, the book. The book to me, was dry. If I didn't know Bram Stoker wrote the work, I would be able to tell it was written by a man. I did like the movie. But I also like a happily ever after. Many women tend to think a lot like the way Stephenie Meyer wrote. I just think that it would hurt someones feelings to state what he did, in the media. I would never want to discourage anyone from writing anything. If I were a famous writer, I wouldn't want to discourage someone who might later turn out to be a great writer. (not speaking about Stephenie Meyer). It's almost like someone who goes into acting, getting told they are to ugly, fat, or don't have talent; so they quit before they even get started.
I think it is really great that Stephenie Meyer, a mom, decided to one day sit down, and write about a dream that she had had; and then it got published, and made into a movie.
Writers should, in my opinion, encourage each other. I like Stephen King and have several of his works. I like horror, fantasy, sci fi books. I have the Harry Potter series and now I have the Twilight series and the Sookie Stackhouse series. I could care less about Stephenies' grammar or spelling, or the fact that the subject matter isn't anything new.
Oh yes, I agree that Stephen King is allowed to give his opinion, but I always was told, " If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." I think that anyone with Stephens' standing, could be nicer and more constructive with the criticism that he bestowed. Encourage. The more writers, the better.
If no one reads your work, then you might have a problem.
LOL
Anyway, Stephen King wasn't asked if he could say anything to Meyer to help her grow as an author. He was asked of what he thought of Meyer as a writer and he gave his honest opinion.
If a simple comment like "you can't write worth a darn" is going to discourage a person from writing then they are either A. Putting way too much stock in what other people think of them or B. Not all that passionate about writing anyway. Sure, people should be encouraged to pursue their dreams. But that doesn't mean crap should be put out for public viewing. That doesn't mean we can't call out flaws when we see them.
I dunno, I think grammar and spelling SHOULD matter. It kind of tends to pull people out of the story when words are misused or spelled wrong. It's not a big deal when it happens once in awhile, but it happens often in Meyer's books. And to go off on a little rant, I don't understand HOW these books got published in such a state. What was the editor DOING? It's their job to fix things like that! Man, what I'd give to be Meyer's editor...she has potential, but I don't think anyone is doing anything to help her improve. And she's never gonna get anywhere if no one has the guts to tell her what's wrong.
Er, I guess my point is that encouragement is nice, but I think criticism is more essential over all. It generally makes people strive to be better...and there's nothing wrong with that, is there?
2. Maybe you should actually read some of his books before you say they weren't as good, hm? When you don't do that, you just look foolish.

People can love the Twilight series. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. What people do have a problem with is that Twilight fans tend to be intolerant towards antis. They can't accept other people's opinions. Not all of them, but a lot of them are like that. Twilight fans also don't see that Meyer's writing isn't the end all be all of literature. There's other great stuff out there - greater than Twilight - but many refuse to admit that.
The movie was not great. Better than the book by a long shot, but not great. It earned a lot, sure, but being popular does not equal quality. Just turning on the radio proves that much.
As for the life comment...I do have a life, as I'm sure many of the antis do. I work, go to college, have great friends and a great family. I couldn't be happier. :)

What part of that don't you understand?
No, really, I think explained what "my problem" is. And I never denied that Twilight/Stephenie Meyer is successful. I admitted as much. I just don't LIKE the fact she is. There's a difference.
He's successful too, so what's your point?
Oh, and by the way. Meyer is as good a writer as Uwe Boll is a good movie maker.
His movie version of Postal was hilarious xD

4. His Dark Tower trilogy got just as much publicity when he finished it about 4 years ago. and it has tons of merchandise and also a graphic novel about it now.

Meyer wishes she could write as well as Rowling. She wishes she had that appeal, the phenomenom, and that her books could be classics instead of forgotten and laughed at by those who use to be her fans. Yeah, Rowling wrote a children's book, but at lease she appealed to everyone and did it well. Meyer only writes wish fulfillments.
Less predictable? It was pretty obvious that Bella would be put in danger, would become a vampire, and would have a daughter. With Rowling we weren't sure what would happen. Book stores even had to go through measures to keep the book from being leaked. That's less predictable.

Btw, to all those saying "Harry Potter can't be compared to Twilight", WRONG. It can be compared, because they are both popular young-adult books. That right there sets up a topic for comparison. Also, it wasn't the antis who started the "war" anyway, it was the media. Die-hard Harry Potter fans just continued it, because HARRY POTTER RULES, DAMMIT.

I agree with King. She sucks. As for Twilight not comparable to HP, irrelevant. Read the last three or four books of Harry Potter where the characters become teenagers. Maybe it's written for a boy's POV, who cares, but you have those fluff moments like Ron/Hermione, or Harry/Cho, Bill/Fleur, Tonks/Remus...etc.
As for The Host being Sci Fi, that was just as Marry Sue-ish as Twilight. It's written for an adult. Melanie Stryder = Stephenie Meyer. See the resemblance?
Before you bite my head off, I read all four books thinking that the story as a whole, is like the Dragonlance Chronicles where it takes over four books to explain an intricate plot...boy was I wrong.
I wasted three days on four books of teenage crap,as for The Host, it was recommended because my friends says that the writing is an improvement and a great sci novel, they even said, "This is better than anything Michael Crichton has written."
That got my attention, low and behold it is Twilight all over. Only with aliens...
She is a mediocre author that should not EXPLAIN things with science. I suggest she read Mercedes Lackey and learn something from an author that can write fantasy, mythology and still be logical and entertaining.

Sorry chickies, but just because something is popular doesn't mean its good; look at Bush being reelected in 04.
Just because you happen to like it doesn't mean it's good either.
Just because it sells doesn't mean it's quality - look at Mexican soap operas and McDonald's
The fact that you have difficulty reading King only shows that you don't know what a good book is. You have to learn how to read properly, start with easier things and then move up. It took me years to realize what a good book is, and if I picked up a classic like the Bronte sisters I'd still have difficulty reading it - it doesn't mean it's bad, it's just that , MYSELF, have yet to achieve the level to read it yet.
So really, learn how to read, then you'll realize the absolute crud you're spewing.

Who said I thought King was a bad writer? I didn't. I like his works. I was referring to Meyer.

Where did you get that? I didn't say you couldn't read it. I just pointed out by literary standards that Twilight isn't as good as so many women claim. But to you to each its own.

2) Stephen King is not jealous of Meyers. He has almost ten times as many books as her, has had a lot more movies made, has earned hundreds of millions dollars more in movie revenues, has something like a hundred short stories, and is almost universally acknowledged as one of the best writers of the century.
3) Her books won't be acknowledged as great novels in ten years time. They won't be acknowledged as great novels in ten minutes time. Her language is mediocre, she has no character development. She's not so great.

He was asked about what he thought about Meyer's work and he was giving his honest opinion about. With all they overrated hype about Meyer, he probably read the books thinking they might be great and was disappointed that they weren't up to his standards.

i have nothing against Stephen King.. Sure he is a great writer i admired him before... but why cant you just accept the fact that Stephenie is in the SPOTLIGHT??? obviously he wants to be in the spotlight too am i correct?

Yes! Another anti! STEPHEN KING IS AN ANTI!
*fist pumping action*
Btw, to all those saying "Harry Potter can't be compared to Twilight", WRONG. It can be compared, because they are both popular young-adult books. That right there sets up a topic for comparison. Also, it wasn't the antis who started the "war" anyway, it was the media. Die-hard Harry Potter fans just continued it, because HARRY POTTER RULES, DAMMIT.
Stop getting angry. It's not a big deal.
Stop getting angry. It's not a big deal.

Another series I found similar to Twilight (and superior, sorry Twi-hards) is Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy (Daughter of the Blood).
But I have to say I do really enjoy Twilight also.

They're not any different from what some of you are doing, they're defending Stephen King's right to expressing his opinion like you're defending Stephenie Meyer's right to write crappy romance novels, only the haters don't sound like a bunch of whiny brats that think people shouldn't express an opinion different from yours.
Fucking fascist bastards.

Meyer is f***ed up over glorifying abusive relationships and pedophilia as romance. King writes f***ed up things, but at least he puts his novels in the right category; horror. :)
Just because he doesn't agree that your crud romance novel is THE BEST THING EVAA!!111 doesn't mean he's f***ed up.
Get a life, and learn what an opinion is, thanks. :D

And more importantly, I never inferred that "sparkly vampires" and stuff like that are real. I meant the essence of how Meyer connects to many people's emotions is real. If you've read her books, and they don't connect to you, then whatever. That's you. And I know there are plenty of people out there like you that don't like the series and don't like the author. But that's your opinion. And it's just plain rude and very disrespectful to come on here and bash something other people are interested in. Seriously, why do you care? Stop wasting your time.
To be honest, these books really helped me on a personal level. They just connect to me that way. And that's that. I'm sorry if you think that's lame but I honestly don't care what you or anyone else bashing the quality of these books says. And I know millions of other people who enjoy these books will back me up on that.
Oh and I'm truly sorry that you don't believe in soul-mates. But hey that's ok. Because people who don't basically have never met someone that would cause them to believe in them. I hope that changes for you someday.
But anyway, please, have some respect and stop coming on here and insulting other people's interests. Go somewhere else, like a "Twilight Hater" website, I mean that's what you're identifying yourself as(big shocker) and leave the fans here and the author alone.

Another factor that " I " think King must note that most of the Harry Potter Saga revolve around Harry's "MOPING " over the lost ones where as Twilight was written with a little Cheerful note.....
(But both the saga are favorite fictional novel ) .(^_^)./

Stephen King wasn't being rude. He was ASKED what he thought of Stephenie Meyer. Is he just supposed to lie so he doesn't upset the ickle fangirls? There's nothing wrong with a famous person stating their opinion on something publicly. They do it all the time. It isn't rude.
Smeyer doesn't write for the fans, actually. She writes for herself. She's admitted as much.
Yeah, I agree some people on here should be locked up...and all of them are rabid Twihards who can't accept King's opinion.

No, really, I think explained what "my problem" is. And I never denied that Twilight/Stephenie Meyer is successful. I admitted as much. I just don't LIKE the fact she is. There's a difference.

thats what all of these comments are. the persons opinion. so seriously don't try to school on what an opinion is if you're not going to respect it.
I wont even go into the spelling mistakes.

but you'twihards are also very bad at the pre-rant fact check. he told his opinion because he was asked for it. he can judge her writting because of his immennse experience and because he was asked to do so. i very much doubt he is going for this "leader of the books" title. and he doesn't only write horror, he has written comedy, drama, action and thriller as well.
...and his stories produce oscars. maybe i hadn't noticed, but i don't think twilight was nominated this year....

Another factor that " I " think King must note that most of the Harry Potter Saga revolve around Harry's "MOPING " over the lost ones where as Twilight was written with a little Cheerful note.....
(But both the saga are favorite fictional novel ) \.(^_^)./
Twilight has very little plot. Most of time it's Bella gawking at Edward saying how hot he is. Then out of the blue she gets strong? Bad writing. New Moon: Bella moped for the entire and tried to kill herself. Your point?
Stephen King wasn't being rude. He was ASKED what he thought of Stephenie Meyer. Is he just supposed to lie so he doesn't upset the ickle fangirls? There's nothing wrong with a famous person stating their opinion on something publicly. They do it all the time. It isn't rude.
Smeyer doesn't write for the fans, actually. She writes for herself. She's admitted as much.
Yeah, I agree some people on here should be locked up...and all of them are rabid Twihards who can't accept King's opinion.
Meyer is a very crappy writing. Twilight could have been way better than it was if she actually took the time to read what she wrote, thought about it, growed in her writing, and edited. Instead she wants to make the teenage population dumber than they already are. She also writes for herself. You can look it up in interviews.
He wasn't even being rude. Meyer has said rude things with the gigantic ego of hers. What is he to gain from the attention? Think before you speak. He's already successful.
It's kind of like being a chef, no matter how much passion and hard work you put into your food, if it's not up to standards to someone, they're not going to hold back. They're going to tell you that the food sucks.
It's a hard world to be an author because people are going to be brutally honest about what they published. Deal with it.
What do you think? We're defending King against the butthurt fans who fail to understand freedom of speech. Duh!
Well seeing as some of the fan's comments are made of fail, "King's works scare me!" "He's just jealous of Meyer!" "Who cares about grammar and spelling? Screw it, we're on the internet!" "He's ugly so he fails are writing!"
There's not much of a difference between reading the books and pretty much just hitting yourself in the head with them, apparently.
Wow, freedom of speech is foreign concept to you, isn't it?

The fact is Meyer's writing is tripe. All her characters are flat, one dimensional Mary/Gary sues. Not to mention the biggest sue of all, Bella, is just a self-insert for Meyer.
It's funny that Meyer hates horror so much since her books are so horrific. If she can't take criticism from a far better author than she'll ever be then she isn't that commited to her trade in the first place.

Do I think the Twilight Saga is the "end all be all" in YA Fantasy? Of course not! There are some really, really good authors out there (if you ever want book suggestions--I'm your girl!) But I enjoy the type of product that she puts out. Someone who doesn't wouldn't see her that way.
In the end--what does it matter? If it makes you happy--who cares what anyone else thinks--even Steven King.

I have read the Twilight Saga, and yes, I love them. But as STORIES. I will be the first to admit that they are shoddilly written and YES they do compare with Harry Potter (although not in the same vein). We all know JK Rowling can't write for anything - how many times does she use the word 'said' in her writing? And that is incredibly amateur. At least Meyer doesn't DO that. BUT her stories overuse speech rather than description. And to be honest, when will a book like Twilight compare with some of the best classic literature ever written? It doesn't even compare with something like Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre. YET, the stories are fantastic, and I will read them again, even though I do grumble about the fact that her prose is quite frankly...shocking.
What I don't understand on here is how people can get so intense over it. It's just a book right, and everyone is entitled to an opinion. And let me just put in here that an opinion is neither write nor wrong. It is just an opinion.
Steven King however, is a fantasic writer. His prose is practically flawless (except in the Dark Tower Gunslinger books...awful books...) and if ANYONE is able to speak out about the flaws in Meyers work, it is him. Maybe some of you 'Twihards' or whatever you call yourselves should actually sit down with say, Pet Semetary or the Dead Zone, read them and THEN compare it to the Twilight Saga, and then maybe you'll see that all this fangirling and getting arsy over some comments made by one of the best and most succesful writers in the world is really rather stupid.
Like I say, I like Twilight, its a fantastic story it could just be written a lot better. I'm half expecting some flaming here now, but just remember what I said. I'm using my head here instead of being overly fangirly and using the fact that I have studied literature to such a degree that I can appreciate everything despite its flaws. Maybe some of you should do the same?
Another series I found similar to Twilight (and superior, sorry Twi-hards) is Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy (Daughter of the Blood).
But I have to say I do really enjoy Twilight also.
BTW, too bad you haven't got the kind of praise and adoration that this TALENTED woman has!
THE OPINION OF A READER TOUCHED BY STEPHANIE MYER'S WRITING. ;o)

One of the worst things you can do with writing is use a whole bunch of synonyms for the word 'said'. 'Said' is one of those words that doesn't need to sound pretty. It's fine as is because you want readers to focus on the dialogue and not on the pretty synonym or fancied up way of 'said'.
One of the worst things a writer can do is use a whole bunch of synonyms for the word 'said'. 'Said' is one of those words that doesn't need to be fancied up. It's fine as it is. You want the readers to focus on the much more important dialogue and not on the pretty variations of the word 'said'.
And to be honest, I think using synonyms of said isn't the worst thing. It really doesn't give out what the character is saying. Take for example, "BLAH BLAH BLAH!' said character a...ok bad i know, but how does that give over shouting. And don't say Caps, because use of capitals really doesn't convey that.
I wasn't trying to say anything like that about Meyers, because through the saga, her writing style does get slightly better, and she does quite good descriptive paragraphs
I just wish people would stop getting so intense over this issue.
a. SK is a great writer - he's been doing it for years and i will go back and read his books over and over again. With Twilight, it's something I do for fun, rather than an academically challenging read
b. people should realise that twilight isn't the be all and end all of literature
c. you kids should just STOP and realise that an opinion is an opinion. If you don't like SK thats fine, to be honest a lot of you couldn't hack his books (just from reading these comments its obvious...), but bashing him over his opinion? He was asked what he thought, and he told the truth, and surely being honest is what its all about? It wasn't rude, he was just giving his opinion
*shrug*
now if you don't mind, I have proper academic reading to do on the English Civil War

He was asked of what he thought of Meyer as a writer and he gave his honest opinion.
and i dont write like this in school! so i think im gonna be okay i dont need your input on how the computer is gonna effect what i do in school...thanks tho
If people dont agree with me, that's fine. this is just my opinion, and I'm trying to keep it as civil as possible. If I could, then I would get in King's face and scream at him for this. But I cant. The books are different, the writers are different, and the fans are different. Period.
Bottom Line: both are great. Different, but great.

The endings of both Meyer's Twilight Saga and King's The Dark Tower series differ completely. I encourage everyone who reads this comment to go and check out The Dark Tower. It allows you to see where King is coming from. Twilight ends with all characters getting everything they want. It's a completely happy ending. It contrasts with most of King's work in that the endings are rarely completely happy, usually there has been much sacrifice on the protagonist's part to get to the end. It makes the reward that much greater.
That said, King could have used a little more tact when asked about Meyer's writing. Keep up the good work Ms. Meyers!

The books are just fuckong awful and the movie just plain out sucked xD
Meyer is just a fucking joke when it comes to writing..
Even I can write better stuff then that, and I have done it xD
Sparkly vampires?Abusive boyfreinds? 104 year old virgins? For the love of REAL books take that pice of shit and burn it, erase it out of history so future generations don't have to be ashamed over us...
Feel free to mail bomb me if you like xD
His movie version of Postal was hilarious xD
What makes King's books new and interesting is what goes on in the books. Sure many of them end in death but what makes his books interesting is, like you said, the path to the death. His premises and the events in the books are what makes for an interesting read.
The premise for Twilight is a girl falls in love with a vampire.
I am less likley to take your comments on the writing of another seriously if I am not given sufficient evidence that you know what you're talking about.
You might not write 'lik dis' at school NOW but a few years down the line? Who's to say?
And to be honest, I think using synonyms of said isn't the worst thing. It really doesn't give out what the character is saying. And no I'm not making fun,or be belittling of Stephen King, I love his works and also the old masters as well. I think he is up to the challenge.
I want to escape sometimes. During the great depression, people went to watch movies that helped them escape from from their troubles and their life. Show us Mr King, in your books, how to escape all the crap in this world ,and dream of something better !!
But I will probably get comments like, why should he, or he already has, you need to read this. Or he doesn't have to, etc. Or he doesn't need to prove himself. No, he doesn't need to. It is just a request.
Would other fans of his, read this kind of book?

Meyer and that of Twilight is a example of Fanfiction being published, I tried to like her, and her writing but it only makes my head hurt. Not only Meyer believes in such strange things as, fantasy=No research or Think about it but never write about it. Her writing is plot less and emotionless, I want some kind a proof in text that Bella ever says she likes Edward for his personality (more then "he protects me")
What? Don't like Stephen King saying its bad, think its wrong for an author to say something about another author? How many times has Meyer talked about other authors? "Why is Edward right about Wuthering Heights sucking?" Come on, 'sucking' nice way to look mature Meyer.
You're picking the wrong fight Twilighters, you think hes wrong, good for you. Don't rape our minds with your illiterate spam. Stephen King has wrote more done more, known more then you do. And you know what, it your going to read a horror your going to be sometime scared, point of reading one.
http://www.stephenking.com/the_library.html
Before you yell, check it out. As my husband just said: On can't be jealous of crap.
Her work is mediocre. Mediocre writing, subpar plots and cliche vampires that....sparkle. Trust me, I'd take Salem's Lot over Twinkle Twilight any day.
I also admit that I'm a huge fan of Twilight, regardless. Like a few people mentioned before me, the books invoke strong feelings in people -- and that's what really matters when you're writing fiction.
Basically, I can see it from either side. But I think people who love Twilight should continue loving it despite what other people say, and I think that haters should quit antagonizing fans because they think it's funny or we're stupid. Grow up, please, or at least find another hobby. Preferably something productive.
thats not ver nice!

Meyer's writing attracted me as well (my then being a preteen), but it seemed a bit familiar. Has anyone ever read a Mary Sue fanfiction? It has striking similarities to such stories. Of course, just like those fanfiction authors, she thought of it on the spur of the moment. The difference is when media took that small, rough seedling and brought it out into the world decorated in ribbons, glitter, and crap. Basically propaganda.
When starting, Meyers never intended it to be a novel. Perhaps, being an obvious fan of fiction, she saw this as a chance for her to shine. It was, but not in the way she wanted.
I honestly think that with time and practice, she can do better. However, being compared with Harry Potter and other vampire romance novels, I think it's a bit much.
Also, kudos to King for speaking his mind. It's not just nameless people voicing their dislike over the books. Steven King did. THE King. However, I felt that he tried to lay it down gently. Hey. At least he was being nice.

plus harry poter dragged on in the end the 1st 3 books were fine and then it became dursleys, travel, hogwarts, sport, trouble, wheyhey harry beat voldermort AGAIN!! it became predicatble.
in new moon you wernt expecting edward to leave, yea the book has flaws ALL books do!!
sk has a right to voice his professional opinion but its about time people stopped comparing sm an jkr as they are two completly diferent genres (except myths)
I would also have to agree with other posters (sorry, I'm feeling too lazy to scroll up and mention exact names, but you'll know who you are in reference) that Twilight brought up some disturbing scenarios and made them acceptable. Edward creeps into Bella's bedroom to watch her sleep (condoning Breaking and Entering, ladies and gentlemen?), is on the verge of physical abuse several times when Jacob or other males are present or mentioned, and plays Bella like the (in my opinion as a reader) mindless, angsty, submissive child she is. All that's lacking is an apron around her waist, and unshod feet, and she becomes every dominant male abuser's dream: dim-witted, in the kitchen, ready to obey his every demand, and even willing to kiss his feet and the ground he walks upon. AKA the redneck wife.
I've read several disturbing things about the more hardcore fans. Biting the necks of people at school, also known as assault. Rejecting their boyfriends because those poor young men failed to measure up to their beloved Edward/Jacob. Starting PHYSICAL FIGHTS, actually resorting to fisticuffs, over another person's opinion of the books.
I'm not saying all Twilight fans are like that. In fact, I'm sure most of you are reasonable, intelligent, well-mannered young ladies (and occasionally gentlemen). But the vocal and violent minority is giving you all a bad reputation. Start speaking out against their behavior more often, you don't want to be judged with their sorry lot.
That rant being concluded......I will admit that the Twilight Saga was an acceptable work of Young Adult fantasy and romance. Not the best I've ever read, good Lord no, but not the worst, either...that spot belongs to those God-awful "Sweet Valley High" novels, may they burn forever in the piss of Satan and his demons in Hell.
As a parting note, may I inform uuberfans of Twilight that my closest friend (indeed, my "sister of another mother") is a fan of the Twilight novels. I haven't allowed one pitiful series (you may take this as a referral to the quality or to the fact that it's only ink and paper) to interfere with our friendship.
As you can guess, I am quite a bit anti-Twilight. But I don't hate the people who argue with intelligence and conviction for their reasons to like the series. I only speak out against the rabid fangirls who make fools of themselves over something that is, and will only ever be, ink dried on the remnants of dead trees.
Good movie as well, despite the budgeting constraints.

All Stephen King did during this interview, was express his opinion on Stephenie, because the interviewer asked him to, which in my opinion, is fair enough. I don't agree completely, because I love the series- (shes not a fantastic writer, but I think shes good at what she does, and she definetely kept me captivated throughout) but I love Stephen King, and I respect his opinion. It doesn't matter who says what, or who doesn't like who, bottom line is, some people like it, some people don't, and people are going to express their opinions. I'm fine about what he said, because he's entitled to think what he thinks, as are all the Twilight haters out there, but I like the Twilight series, and I will continue to like them, so what does it matter what anyone else thinks?
Having said that, I don't like the extremes, I don't like the Twilight obsessives, or the serious Twilight haters, because all they do is come on here and shout their opinion(usually in caps) about how everyone else is wrong and their opinion is fact. if you like it, like it, if you don't, then don't, but if you're gonna express you're opinion, at least express it in a mature and friendly manner.....(I admit that the annoying ones are the minority, most people on here are mature about it)
sorry about the essay, or if it came out in a bit of a ramble, I just kinda wrote as I thought :D

But I just recently started reading "A Canticle for Liebowitz" and the foreword talks about the difference between Fiction and Literature, and you know - Twilight isn't "literature". It's fiction. I think it's GOOD fiction. As such, I think that Stephanie Meyer is a good fiction writer. Her books do what they are supposed to do - provide an enjoyable read for her target audience (as well as anyone else who cares to be entertained by a novel, slightly dark, romantic vampire story.)
But will they last throughout the ages? Will these books be referred to throughout history for being the pinnacle of their time, for having broken new ground, for being perfect examples of their genre? Probably not. When compared to authors whose works have lasted - and will last - hundreds of years, Stephanie Meyer really isn't that good of a writer.
But instead of freaking out, just keep this in mind - Stephanie Meyer doesn't NEED to be a Nobel Prize-winning author. She doesn't need to have as many awards as Stephen King. I don't even think Stephanie Meyer was TRYING to create some super, award-winning piece of literature.
I think she was trying to tell a story.
A story about a girl.
And a vampire.
In love.
So my advice to those who seem horribly upset by this? Don't take it personally. Have a little perspective. See Twilight for the fourth (okay, sixth) time, and you'll feel much better!
